News from Los Altos City Council:

Three Los Altos City Council seats will be up for election on November 5, 2024. Sally Meadows and Jonathan Weinberg who can run again. Lynette Lee Eng who is termed out.

In response to communication from a law firm, Shenkman and Hughes, the City will initiate a transition from an At-Large Election System to a District-Based Election System with the transition to take place at the November 2026 and 2028 elections. Not making the transition could expose the City to expensive litigation.

Los Altos has renewed its agreement with Santa Clara County Hazardous Waste Program for 2025-2026.

Highlights from Los Altos City Council April:

Council made adjustments to building Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to remove barriers to construction. Neighbors are not happy about the sight lines.

Some children’s programs at the San Antonio Club will be phased out as the building needs renovation. Future programs will be run by the Children’s Corner, which oversees children programs at the Los Altos Community Center.

Highlights from Board Meetings on April 1:

Trustees heard CAW Architects present an updated Facilities Master Plan for the district’s nine schools.

Trustees approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Palo Alto Unified School District which would allow Transitional Kindergarten through eighth grade students living in Palo Alto to attend Gardner Bullis School. Currently only students Kindergarten through sixth grade may do so.

On February 13 the LACC adopted the Tree Protection Regulations, reviewed the city's mission statement, discussed fulfilling city’s commitment to increase housing, preparing parking plan and street maintenance.

On February 27 the LACC approved amendments that would implement the parking changes to help increase housing and held a public hearing to review and renew the Los Altos Police Policy pertaining to the funding, acquisition, and use of military equipment as mandated by California Assembly Bill 481.
