Join the League in Opposing Los Altos Measure D

 Our League Board voted to oppose Los Altos Measure D, the “Los Altos Downtown Parking Plazas Ordinance” on the 2026 November ballot. This ballot measure would require a city-funded election for each and every modification of the downtown parking plazas except for maintenance and limited affordable housing. It would also open the City up to costly litigation at a time when resources are better spent on City services. The League based their decision on two League principles:  

• The League believes in representative government and holding elected officials accountable. 
• The League supports housing for all.  This measure makes it unlikely that Los Altos will build housing downtown.

Write Postcrds to Encourage Infrequent Voters

We’re not asking for money. We’re asking for a little of your time. We work with the non-partisan organization, Reclaim Our Vote. The organization has a 70% turnout of people contacted for the 2024 election and they follow up on the cards with calls and visits.

You can write to voters in Georgia to mail between October 5-13.

Make sure you are registered to vote in the November midterms. Have you changed address, name, or just need to verify your status? Last day to register to vote or make changes to your status is October 23.

Of 14 Propositions, California League Focuses on Prop 39

Dora Rose, LWVCA Deputy Director, reminds us that Prop 39 is a Trump-inspired partisan power grab designed to make voting harder, intrude on your privacy, and throw out eligible ballots. The League is an official opponent and signed the ballot arguments against it. Check out the fact sheet.

You will have to show a government ID when you vote in person. If you vote by mail, you would have to write part of a government ID number on the outside of the return envelope, next to your name, address, and signature. That is an invitation to identity theft. Also, a rule like this can get mail ballots rejected over a blank field or a wrong digit. Taxpayers would pay hundreds of millions a year for it.

California's elections already work. Prop 39 would break them on purpose, so politicians can decide whose vote counts. Protect your voice. Protect our vote. Vote NO on Prop 39.
