From LWVUS...

Democracy in Your Hands Series | June – October 2025

Our nation is in a constitutional crisis. Now more than ever, it's critical that League members have the tools they need to mobilize their communities to defend our democracy. To help Leagues prepare, LWV is facilitating two upcoming training opportunities:

Democracy in Your Hands Series | June – October 2025

The virtual training series includes five key topics, outlining how Leagues can activate and mobilize their communities in this rapidly changing political environment and make a lasting impact. Members are welcome to attend any of the following sessions, occurring through the summer and early fall.

  • Jun. 18, 11am ET | Understanding Media Literacy: How to Stay Informed, Engaged, and in the Know (recorded)
  • Jul. 23, 11am ET | Championing Issues That Matter Most to You
  • Aug. 20, 12:30pm ET | Understand the Three Branches of Government
  • Sept. 17, 11am ET | Working With Local Election Officials to Anchor Change
  • Oct. 22, 3:30pm ET | Building Coalitions to Amplify Action

Register now.

Defending democracy is demanding much of us in these times, but we are all in this together.

From LWVC...

New LWVC President Gloria Chun

It is both an honor and a privilege to take on the role of president of the League of Women Voters of California. This is a critical time for our nation and for our democracy, and I step into this role with humility, gratitude, and a deep sense of purpose...

This work belongs to all of us...

Now is the time to recommit. We are not afraid. We will not be silenced...

As part of the national Unite and Rise 8.5 campaign, we will work together to activate one million voters in California. We will not sit this moment out. We will raise our voices, show up in our communities, and do the work required to build a stronger, more inclusive democracy.

Take Action

Yes on SJR-1

A constitutional convention -- an "Article V Convention" -- can be called for by a state for any reason. BUT - even a convention called for a specific purpose could spin out of control.

Senate Joint Resolution 1 (Wiener), sponsored by the League of Women Voters of California, will rescind all of California’s prior calls for an Article V Constitutional Convention. In today’s political climate, where extremist forces are actively seeking to undermine democracy, if California’s open calls for a convention remain, it will offer a direct pathway to chaos.

If you didn’t yet - ask your assemblymember to vote YES on SJR 1!
