League Accomplishments at 2024 Election Time

A little volunteer time can make a big difference during the election season. Here are some of our League's activities in 2024:

Hosted eight candidate forums for local and state offices
Hosted two Pros & Cons, explaining the ballot measures
Pre-registered over 500 16-and 17-year-olds at Los Altos and Mountain View High Schools
Completed 1400 postcards to Georgia, Texas and North Carolina
Fielded questions and registered voters at the Mountain View Farmers Market
Helped at Foothill College “Political Awareness Days” to register voters and encourage students to turn out and vote

There are opportunities to volunteer every year. On February 26, 2025, we will register new citizens just after their naturalization ceremony. To learn more or become involved in our Voter Services Committee contact voterservices@lwvlamv.org.

Upcoming Changes to League Dues in February

Reminder: Watch for details about the new renewal process which will be coming soon. This new system, managed by LWVUS, is scheduled to launch in February 2025 when you will receive an email to log-in to the new portal to update your information. You will not need to renew until your regular renewal date when you will receive an email reminder.

What’s So Bad About Voter ID Laws

Coming up is the re-introduction in Congress of the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act), the deceptive legislation that is said to ‘make sure only citizens register to vote’ but really will suppress voter registration. With a trifecta in this Congressional session the legislation may become law. It requires the presentation of papers to prove birth in the United States or naturalization papers at the time of registration to vote.

Voter ID laws have long been debated in the United States. While supporters argue that voter photo ID laws are necessary to prevent voter fraud and ensure the integrity of elections, reality tells a different story. To read the LWV blog about voter suppression click here.
