From LWVUS…

Watch the "What's Not Right With the Electoral College" Video

The One Person, One Vote fight for fair representation is more than just a battle for a new system instead of relying on the Electoral College for a presidential election outcome - it is a crucial step towards saving our democracy. Learn how the fight for fair representation is connected to the 2024 federal election and how we can take meaningful action.

Watch the LWV organized panel on the Electoral College. Moderated by Celina Stewart, LWVUS Chief Counsel, Senior Director of Advocacy & Litigation, hear the thoughts from Na’ilah Amaru, Advocacy Strategist; Carolyn Dupont, University of Kentucky; and Keesha Gaskins-Nathan, US Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Postcard Party to Encourage Voting

We’re not asking for your money. We’re asking for a little of your time. It is a great way to make a difference in states that have passed laws making voting harder.

Working with the non-partisan organization, Reclaim Our Vote, LWV LA-MV members will write postcards to encourage voting early and identify issues of particular concern to voters in key states chosen – at this party we write to Texans. Reclaim Our Vote has a 70% turnout of people contacted for the 2020 election and they follow up on the cards with calls and visits.

To that end, join other League members at a postcard writing party. Encourage infrequent Texas voters to vote. Enjoy refreshments and good conversation.

  • Saturday, August 17
  • 2:00 - 4:00pm
  • Karin Bricker’s Home
  • To attend: RSVP to Karin (who will send you the address).

We also plan to have another postcard writing party in October.

Can’t make it on August 17? Prefer writing at your own desk? In the August 15 Voter, look for the opportunity to pick up packets to take home and write. Each packet includes everything you need (except pens): 20 cards with a simple, short script to write, names/addresses, directions and photos of a sample card as well as stamps. A card takes about 5 minutes to write.

Writing postcards to encourage voters is a great way to make a difference in states that have passed laws making voting harder.
