From LWVC…

           Overview on Housing Issues

“Six in ten Californians name …homelessness and housing as…most important issues facing the people of California today.” (Public Policy Institute of California, December 2023) Quoted in LWVC article to introduce California YIMBY - Housing Policy: Myth vs. Fact.

  • Myth: There is no housing shortage. There are plenty of luxury condos sitting vacant in our city.
  • Fact: The “vacancy rate,” or number of empty homes, is catastrophically low in every major California city - between 3 and 4 percent state-wide. Low vacancy rates are the primary reason landlords keep raising rents.

For more Myth vs Fact click here. To support housing in our local area join the LWVLAMV Housing Committee.

The League “supports equal opportunity in housing. From meeting basic human needs to land use and transportation to climate change, this is an issue that affects all parts of the state and a large number of our positions.”
