Still Time to Write Postcards for Democracy

Write postcards to Georgia and Virginia voters to increase turnout in the upcoming primary run-off election. These nonpartisan postcards from Reclaim Our Vote will be sent to infrequent black voters with a message to vote early and several key reasons to vote. Postcards sent via Reclaim Our Vote have a high success rate in turning out voters because they attempt to follow up with voters after the postcards are received.

  • Postcards are available now
  • Postcards must be mailed:
    • Georgia: between April 22 and May 9
    • Virginia: between April 26 and June 6
  • This opportunity is for League members only.

           2024 Legislation of Interest

The LWVC Advocacy Team and Legislation Committee have already taken positions on nine new pieces of legislation and examined three ballot measures. We’ve analyzed an additional ten bills for review at our upcoming Legislation Committee meeting. Also, we are analyzing ballot measures that have already qualified for the November ballot. Two bills of interest:

AB 1784 (Pellerin) will clarify that under California law, a candidate can only run for one office on the same ballot.  The bill creates a procedure allowing candidates to withdraw previously filed nomination papers for a primary election. The need: to overturn Sacramento Superior Court ruling allowing Assemblymember Vince Fong to run for both state Assembly and the U.S. House in the same election.

AB1174 (Min) will ensure that local governments in California cannot implement laws to require voter identification in any election. The need: legislation to clarify voting rights after Huntington Beach City Council placed a voter identification measure on the March 2024 ballot.

See more at the League’s 2024 positions on bills.
