League News

From LWVUS ...

Roughly 100 League members actively participated

On December 13, 2023, in person and virtually, members from 10 states and Washington D.C. joined us on the ground!

League actions inspired 1.8k+ letters to Congress on the day of the march, demanding that our members of Congress take action to enshrine equality in our Constitution! As LWV continues the journey towards equality, keep contacting California legislators.

Are you a ‘No Party Preference’ voter?

Remember that there are three options for "No Party Preference" (NPP) voters in the upcoming primary election on March 5,2024:

  • American Independent, Democratic, and Libertarian parties have opted to allow NPP voters to “crossover” and vote in their primary election. The Registrar of Voters (ROV) mailed out a postcard to all NPP voters advising them of their options to request a one-time crossover ballot for these parties. The ROV urges voters to return the postage-paid postcard early to ensure they receive the ballot they requested.
  • Those wishing to vote in the Republican, Peace and Freedom, or Green party primaries must re-register with that specific party by February 20, 2024, to receive a ballot for that party.
  • NPP voters who do not re-register or request a crossover ballot will receive a ballot without any presidential candidates. However, the ballot will have all other state and local contests on it. Voters should confirm they got the ballot they expected. If they did not receive the ballot they would like to vote on, it is important to surrender that ballot and request a new one before voting and mailing in the one they received.

You can check the status of your registration for your party information at registertovote.ca.gov. For more information, contact the Registrar of Voters’ Office at (408) 299-VOTE (8683) or toll-free at (866) 430-VOTE (8683), or visit www.sccvote.org."

Take Action

Climate Solutions

People often wonder

what they can do to help solve global warming and have their actions be significant and meaningful. Recently, we were introduced to a chart that lists the top 20 high-impact climate actions that households and individuals can take. We were very surprised by the findings. Project Drawdown gathered the data and estimated the cumulative carbon reduction over a thirty-year period for a myriad of climate actions. Choosing from energy, travel, food, or non-food waste, can you guess which category includes the two most impactful actions you can take?
