LWV Supports Measure A

 The LWV of the Los Altos-Mountain View Area supports the Los Altos School District’s Measure A Parcel Tax.

 The parcel tax maintains the current parcel tax plus an increase of $72 to cover cost of living increases. Support the parcel because:

• Teachers and other school staff struggle to live in or near the community they work in because of the high cost of housing here.
• The income from the parcel tax will allow the School District (LASD) to continue to hire skilled teachers.
• The continuation of the parcel tax will allow LASD to maintain its standing in the top 1% of all schools in California.

Note that Seniors who are homeowners will continue to be eligible for an exemption.  A citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits ensure that all funds are spent as promised.  The League urges you to support Measure A on the November 7, 2023 ballot. You can find additional information at Measure A .

The US Supreme Court removed key protections of the Voting Rights Act in the Shelby v. Holder decision of 2013, and voter suppression bills have swept across our nation:

• Discriminatory voter ID laws and limits to early and mail-in voting
• Attacks on voter registration such as unjust purges
• Last-minute Election Day barriers and eliminating voting locations in underserved communities

That’s why, in addition to the Expand the Franchise, People Powered Fair Maps^™ campaigns, the League is hard at work growing the LWVUS Democracy Defense Fund which pushes back against efforts to suppress voting by launching legal challenges. Because of the fund, the League is at the forefront of the most threatening federal and state cases across the United States.
