LWV Supports Measure A

The League of Women Voters of the Los Altos-Mountain View Area Board of Directors voted to support the Los Altos School District’s Measure A Parcel Tax.

The parcel tax maintains the current parcel tax plus an increase of $72 to cover cost of living increases. We support the parcel because:

  • Teachers and other school staff struggle to live in or near the community they work in because of the high cost of housing here.
  • The income from the parcel tax will allow the School District (LASD) to continue to hire skilled teachers.
  • The continuation of the parcel tax will allow LASD to maintain its standing in the top 1% of all schools in California.

In addition, Seniors who are homeowners will continue to be eligible for an exemption.  A citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits ensure that all funds are spent as promised.  Without the parcel tax LASD will face a large financial shortfall.

We hope that you too will support Measure A on the November ballot.

You can find additional information at Measure A .  If you would like to help support Measure A, contact Stella Kam.

LWVUS Asks:

Tell Congress to Protect Our Youth

Climate change has a disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities who have contributed the least to climate change-causing emissions, including our youth.

Now, there is a legislative opportunity before Congress known as the Children’s Fundamental Rights and Climate Recovery Resolution. This resolution recognizes the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on the health, economic opportunities, and fundamental rights of children in the United States.

The League has endorsed this resolution, but we need YOUR help in demanding that Congress acts now to address the climate crisis and protect our youth. Contact Congress today.

Add an All-Electric ADU!

Beautiful, small, prefabricated backyard homes are now all electric. These Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) offer the benefit of zero emissions, reduced energy costs, increased safety, and enhanced personal health. There is no need to install a natural gas line, saving occupants from harmful pollutants! Some ADUs are designed to include high-rated insulation, solar panels, heat pump water heaters and HVAC, induction cooktops, and Energy Star appliances. ADUs are usually fully constructed offsite, so installation at the property can take from as little as two to twelve weeks. Find out all the benefits of adding an all-electric ADU to your property here.
