New Law for Ballot Measures
ACA 13 (Ward-AD 78) is about fairness. The League of Women Voters agrees with requiring ballot measures proposing to increase the number of votes needed to pass a measure, to also pass by the same increased number. ACA 13 would also preserve the right of local governments to place advisory questions asking voters their opinions on the ballot.

Under current CA law, a simple majority may pass a measure to require a supermajority of voter approval for future action, even without the corresponding level of support. This framework has given disproportionate power to a small number of voters. Little more than one-third of voters can prevent laws on which a majority of voters agree.

Held at Desk by unanimous consent until November 1, 2023. Still time contact your state representative here.

Ensure Fair Redistricting

AB 764 (Bryan AD55; Cervantes AD58) and AB 1248 (Ramos AD45) are crucial to our democracy as they will ensure all Californians have a fair voice in shaping our communities' futures through local redistricting. AB 764 strengthens the FAIR MAPS Act to prohibit partisan gerrymandering, increase transparency, and expand provisions to include educational and special districts.

AB 1248 follows up to require larger cities, counties, and educational districts to establish independent redistricting commissions (IRCs), especially for Indigenous CA tribes, to give voters and communities a say in choosing their elected representatives.

Contact your state Senator and urge them to vote YES on AB 764 & AB 1248.
