League News

Poll Worker Power

Poll workers empower all of us to make our voices heard. They ensure all communities have access to the ballot box. They are critical to the success of an election.

That's why LWV and VOTE411 asks you to sign up with Power the Polls. Get involved in this crucial part of our democracy.

As a poll worker, you'll get paid to make sure your community is heard – to make sure your friends and neighbors can participate to build a stronger democracy. Thank you.

Oppose a Constitutional Convention

The League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) strongly opposes Governor Newsom's recent decision to seek an Article V constitutional convention. The proposal, encapsulated in SJR-7, seeks to add California to the states aiming to alter the U.S. Constitution, a move that comes without a clear structure or guidelines.

The LWVC supports targeted, focused policy action to address gun violence and the damage it is doing to our children and communities, but a Constitutional Convention is not the right approach.

Chris Carson, LWVC Board President: “Opening a Constitutional Convention puts every right, civil liberty, and underlying value of our country at risk. There are no limits or guardrails to what can be changed during a Constitutional Convention and it opens the door to well-funded special interests buying access to change the Constitution to serve their purposes."

TELL YOUR LEGISLATORS to VOTE NO ON SJR-7.

Take Action

Climate Solutions

California has the ambitious goal of banning piped natural gas by 2045 so it’s no surprise we all need to electrify our kitchen stoves.

The reason for this is well known. Gas cooktops increase greenhouse gas emissions, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and formaldehyde causing pollution harmful to our health and future well-being.

Find out how you can electrify your kitchen stove here.
