Expand, Not Restrict, Voting Rights
The Supreme Court decision on Moore v. Harper affirmed our democratic system of checks and balances rejecting the dangerous "Independent State Legislature Theory." However, “Each year, the number of restrictive voting bills introduced in states continues to grow, showing a vested effort to disenfranchise millions of voters nationwide,” LWV Chief counsel Celina Stewart said. The League of Women Voters would like to see the introduction of bipartisan legislation: expand early voting, allow no-excuse absentee voting, implement automatic and online voter registration, improve operations of the Election Assistance Commission, improve language access, and ensure proper voter list maintenance.
In the efforts for improved voter access, the League also advocates for same-day voter registration, increased access for disabled voters and for native voters in every state. What LWVLAMV can do: Support Voting Rights expansion. |
