Engaging Youth in our Democracy
WATCH: Engaging Youth in our Democracy (45 minutes)
At our 2022 Annual Meeting, Julie Yick, Ed.D., lead us in a discussion about working together with students to promote civic engagement in our communities. Dr. Yick shared her thoughts about building bridges between communities to increase community involvement and to “breathe life into our democracy”. We heard from two of her students who spoke about how they became active in social justice issues.
We went into breakout rooms to brainstorm ideas about inspiring students to become involved and how teens and adults might work more collaboratively. Afterwards we discussed ideas about how our League might work together with students to improve our communities and strengthen our democracy.
During the business portion of our Annual Meeting we elected our new board, passed our budget and program for next year and updated some of our local positions.
