The board also approved two resolutions – one authorizing the purchase of upgraded phone systems, and the other authorizing the issuance of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes in the amount of $15 million. These notes are authorized by the board every year and allow the district to borrow money short-term to cover expenses until property tax revenue is received.

The Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction Greg Drummond presented an update on teaching Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within LASD. He emphasized that teachers need more professional development and guidance for lesson plans. The district will consider using the curriculum offered by the Anti-Defamation League.
The board unanimously approved a contract with environmental consultant Amy Skewes-Cox to assist the district in meeting legal requirements set forth by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) regarding construction on the 10th site. Ms. Cox will submit various documents to the district, including an Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which will be subject to public review. The public review period is expected to begin on October 4, 2022 and last for 45 days. During this period, the public can email the board with their concerns and expect a response.
In addition, the board adopted a resolution to establish a Cafeteria Special Revenue Fund to account for ongoing food service operations now required by the Universal Meals Program. Assistant Superintendent Mr. Kenyon also announced that Revolution Foods was selected to be the district’s food vendor for 2022-23. Revolution Foods will provide both breakfast and lunch at $6.10 per day, including delivery. The current combined state and federal reimbursement rate is $6.20, but next year’s rates remain uncertain. The district is also attempting to hire food servers, which is estimated to cost the district around $400,000 per year.
