On May 1st, President Katie Zoglin presented the first ever LA-MV Area LWV Community Engagement and Outreach Grant to members of the Los Altos High School Green Team (see photo). The grant is designed to engage high schoolers in issues of importance to the League. To this end, students were asked to apply for $500 grants in four of League’s primary focus areas: voter participation/education; mental health/wellness; housing/ homelessness; and climate change/climate action.
The LAHS Green Team was awarded their grant to promote “Sustainable Waste Distribution at Los Altos High School.” The team has spent many months working with the school district to ensure that containers and utensils used on campus are compostable. Now, students need to learn how to properly recycling/sorting of these items so that they are successfully processed once used. The students will design and create new signage and educational materials with funds from their CEO grant.
Congratulations to the LAHS Green Team and thank you for your work on climate action!
