  • NEW 2012 REDISTRICTING
New district lines have been drawn for many public offices based on the 2010 Census data. The new districts will affect which candidates & contests appear on your ballot beginning with the June 5, 2012 Primary Election. To find your new districts, go to: County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters; type in your address. The resulting page will give you your districts.

New Congressional House of Representatives District 18 includes Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View; new State Senatorial District 13 includes Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View; new State Assembly Member District 24 includes Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View.
  • NEW 2012 TOP TWO CANDIDATES OPEN PRIMARY ACT
Under the Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, all candidates running in a primary election, except for the office of President of the United States, regardless of their party preference, will appear on a single primary election ballot and voters can vote for any candidate. The top two overall vote-getters, not the top vote-getter from each qualified political party, will move on to the general election. Additionally, candidates are no longer allowed to run as "independents" or "write-ins" at the general election.

For more about the new Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act which takes effect in June 2012 go to: California Secretary of State page on the new open primary.
